Focus on adding Credit Union cards & connections
Amanda Moneysaver
Credit Unions generally offer much lower APRs and some have really great rewards.
They also are more likely to work with people and small businesses with financial situations and have better customer service than the big banks.
For example my Abound Credit Union card offers 5% back on gas and rotating 5% categories similar to Discover’s. Would be awesome if it could connect so I don’t have to manually enter the categories.
My Alliant Credit Union card offers 2.5% back on everything as long as you maintain $1000 in a free high rate checking acct with 1 deposit a month.
And many Credit Unions in my area offer credit cards with APRs below 10%.

A follow up idea: if anyone could submit edits to card info, then maybe MaxRewards staff could verify them before posting them.
Or maybe once a certain # of users have verified the info is correct then it would be posted. I am an active user of iNaturalist and though it’s a different type of app, this kind of system where multiple users verify info works well there. Things could also work similarly to ratings sites, maybe users could “rate” card info as accurate or not, and then that would show which card info needs to be updated, or which card info users can rely on.
Currently Doctor Of Credit, and various subreddits are the only places I know of where users can contribute info that other users can find. The r/creditcards reddit has an awesome and comprehensive list some folks put together but it doesn’t seem to be being updated. If MaxRewards (or someone else) could offer a good and up to date list, it would be a really valuable offering.
Something needs to be done to keep the card info in MaxRewards up to date and we should NOT wait until supposedly all credit unions and banks will automatically share info with MaxRewards.

Also, it would be great if there could be a way to show their categories of membership eligibility. For example if there is a way for people to qualify for membership nationwide via joining an organization, or if their membership is limited only to people within a certain geographic area, employer(s), or local organizations.
It would be even better if we could put in our zip code or state and find all credit cards available to people in that zip code or state, or to employees or organization members in that zip code or state.
Also it shouldn’t be hard for new cards to be added or old ones updated. Maybe it could be like Wikipedia where anyone can add or edit information as long as it’s properly sourced.

Please implement Alliant Credit Union

Goodie Badie Yes please, this is one of the largest credit unions so it would help a lot of folks. Though really making it easy to have credit cards from any credit union would help a lot!
